HEAD OF SCHOOL
Rabbi Shmuel Klammer, Ed. D. Rabbi Shmuel Rabbi Klammer is a highly regarded veteran educator who has been Shulamith’s Head of School since 2011. Previously, he was the Principal of The Hebrew Academy of Long Beach, The Maimonides School as well as being a teacher for many years. After studying at Yeshivat Kerem B’Yavneh in Israel for two years, he received his undergraduate degree, and M.S. in Jewish Education as well as semikha from Yeshiva University, and an Ed.D from Columbia University in Curriculum and Teaching. He is a reflective practitioner always seeking to learn more. Among other professional development programs in which he has participated is the Harvard University Principals’ Summer Institute. An educator’s educator and a master teacher, he has given many seminars, sessions, lectures and workshops to colleagues, and is currently an Adjunct Professor of Jewish Education at Touro Graduate School of Jewish Studies.
Mrs. Caroline Wilk
Director of Preschool & Director of Admissions (N-8)
Mrs. Caroline Wilk grew up and was educated at the Hasmonean School and at university in England. She arrived in the U.S. in 1976 after spending 5 years in Israel working at Hebrew University Hadassah Medical School. She started at Shulamith in 1988 as a teacher and became the Early Childhood Director/ Director of Admissions in 2012.
Mrs. Betty Shusterman
Principal of Grades 1-8
Betty Shusterman is currently Principal of General Studies for Grades 1-8. Previously, she was the Assistant Principal for grades 1-5 at Shulamith since 2013. She attended Brooklyn College where she earned her B.A. and M.S. in Language Arts and Early Childhood. She is licensed by N.Y. State for grades N -6. She began her career at Akiva Academy in Wilmington, Delaware, and continued in various teaching and administrative positions for many years at HAFTR and HALB. She has created and implemented many innovative programs in language, literacy and technology, is a master teacher herself, and mentors many faculty members. Mrs. Shusterman has also been the first grade General Studies teacher since 2013.
Mrs. Gitty Fleisher
Director of Student Services
Mrs. Gitty Fleisher has been a part of Shulamith School since 1981 where she began as a sixth grade math and science teacher after receiving her B.A. and M.S. in Education from Brooklyn College. She was instrumental in opening the resource room in 1988, and became principal of the Middle School in 2007 upon receiving certification from C.W. Post – L.I.U. in school administration. Currently, in addition to being in charge of the day to day running of the middle school, and teaching math in grades six and eight, she is Director of Students Services, making sure that all students receive whatever services they need or are entitled to, thereby ensuring their success in school.
Mrs. Penina Karp
Principal, High School
Penina Karp has been the principal of Shulamith High School since 2009. She comes to this position after extensive teaching and administrative experience in the arts and sciences. She has undergraduate and graduate degrees from NYU in Chemistry, Hebrew, and Educational Leadership. She is a research chemist with strong leadership skills and a broad base of knowledge in both general and Judaic studies.
